Day 153

This picture is a BIG DEAL in the Smith household....Jack has had sleeping issues for about 6 months or so..maybe longer. (well compared to E-the miracle sleeper-, he has had issues since day 1--didn't sleep through the night until he turned 2, and really only slept great for about 9 months) One night, while still in the crib, he decided he was terrified of EVERYTHING in his room. He was scared of his windows, his dresser, shadow, etc. It was hours and hours of crying with no sleep for few days. Then he decided to jump out of his crib---we converted the crib to a toddler bed, no luck. We gave in and let him sleep with Elizabeth and the rest is history. He's slept with her every night since then. I told myself I was waiting until this summer to try and get him back into his own bed so that I could prepare to function with little sleep the next day while not at work. (It's not that I mind them sleeping together, but he kept her up way past bedtime, and woke her up really early)  I read books, articles, talked with my pediatrician for all the right tips on making that transition. Jack has changed a lot the last couple weeks---seems so much older and able to hold deeper conversations. So we talked a lot about being a big boy now (new class, new underwear, new bedding (thanks, April!) etc... He is all about NOT being a baby so with many complaints but no tears, he went to bed all on his own!  He got up in a panic real early, but slept all night!  I am TOTALLY shocked and incredibly happy. I hope it sticks!

Day 152

Storytime at the library this morning.

Day 151

Get ready for the easiest cookie recipe ever!  Well, except for the break and bake, but that's not really even a recipe.
All you need:
1cup peanut butter ( I used creamy b/c that's all my kids like, but I bet it's great with crunchy too!)
1cup sugar or splenda,
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

mix all ingredients together, roll into balls and criscross with fork dipped in sugar
sprinkle a little extra sugar on top....bake at 350 for 15 min
they are delicious...
and I am trying desperately not to eat the whole plate before the kids wake up from their naps.

Day 150

tonight we did a little lightning bug catching.....Elizabeth had a great time, Jack would have nothing to do with it, of course ;-) After Mommy caught the first one to prove they didn't sting or bite, she was all over it!
                                                                 Careful inspection.....

                                                                then we let them go
this was as close as he would get, and the only time he would humor me by even looking at the jar.

Day 149

Today was the first Saturday for Helena's Market Days---

Buck Creek

here's my haul....these homemade pickles are DE-LISH.  If you are local, don't miss a chance to go--they are at the amphitheater every Saturday all summer.

Day 148

E misses school so much already...1 week into summer vacation.  She asks when it will be time for 1st grade daily. Pair that with a teacher for a mommy and this is what you get:

I told her she could have "school" each day with me, and she was all over it. Day 1 of summer homeschooling was a success!
